Probably my favorite sculptor. His stuff is spread out all over the place in museums around the country, but I got a chance to see his entire collection at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, where they have his Ladder for Booker T. Washington on permanent display. He works mainly with wood and bronze and creates some amazing designs. In my opinion, it’s easy to take clay and make something out of it, it’s completely malleable. But wood? A bit more difficult. Puryear makes it look easy.
