The first Lou Berney book I read was Gutshot Straight with a character from New Orleans – Charles “Shake” Bouchon. It is a great crime novel with moments both hysterical and sublime. But, in my opinion, Berney’s magnum opus is The Long and Faraway Gone. The protagonist, Wyatt, is one of the most developed and unpredictable characters I have seen in a long time. The things he says and the timing of when he says it will amaze you. Wyatt’s history is long, emotional and complicated and the title of the book doesn’t refer to him only. It is a must read. Trust me. You will love it.
