Iron Maiden

I looked at a documentary on Netflix or maybe You Tube, I can’t remember, but it was basically the history of Iron Maiden. They were the quintessential metal band back in the 80s. I think every parody done of metal bands is making fun of Maiden. I have to say though, I’ve always loved them. They’re all brilliant musicians and Steve Harris is a great songwriter. In my opinion, they put a lot of metal bands to shame, but those bands would probably readily admit that. They were, and still are, the kings of the new wave of British heavy metal. Of course, that doesn’t include Sabbath, as they are the true kings.

I don’t particularly care for D’Ano’s voice, but the song writing was still there on their debut album Iron Maiden and the subsequent Killers, but I thought when Bruce Dickinson joined on as lead vocals, they went over and beyond. I suppose my favorite albums, in order, are Piece of Mind, Powerslave and then Number of the Beast. I know they did great stuff after Powerslave, but I was out of heavy metal then and into college music. Reflecting back though, they are great performers and musicians that near no one can hold a candle too. Up the Irons!
