If you’ve never seen these films, you’ve never seen film. Coppola is a master.
The first Godfather film is the quintessential mafia film, way ahead of it’s time. The mise en scène in this film is probably the best ever shot. The symbolism is perfect. The second film is equally well done, although the tone is quite different. Very brilliant nonetheless.
If anyone wants to argue that Scorsese’s Goodfellas, Mean Streets or Casino are better mafia films, feel free to post your opinion. I love Scorsese’s films, and I’m not trying to disparage him, but Coppola’s Godfather films are the bomb.
